This extremely rare quarter chiming French clock which plays on a graduated set of eight bells and strikes the hours on a gong. It is of the finest quality and in excellent condition.

The eight day movement with platform escapement is arranged in a similar though not identical way to a carriage clock which has been designed to interact with the chiming mechanism below. The only other examples of French clocks of this type are by Mathieu Planchon, an example of which can be found in Tardy’s La Pendule Française Volume three p143.

The gilded case is of exceptional quality with an engraved gilded dial mask, with a white enamel dial and blued steel hands. The base has an inscription to the Reverend C.B. Male 1887.
