Miniature Bureau By George Hone of Sussex
A delightful miniature bureau taking the form of an early Georgian drop front writing desk this scale model is made of beautifully figured burr walnut with cross banding, comprising of two short drawers over two long graduated lower drawers with a demilune marquetry inset in the bottom drawer.
the bureau opens to reveal four tiny dovetailed drawers below with letter slots arranged on either side of a central cupboard. The central door is quarter veneered around a central oval on both the inside and outer, a delightful and surprising detail that exemplifies the remarkable craftsmanship of this tiny piece of carpentry.
The Writing surface still has its original tooled leather embossed in gold.
The scale and attention to detail of this piece is really remarkable, with lovely brass fittings and hinges, the maker George Hone has signed the base with a hand written label, clearly very proud of his work.
