Oversized Desk Compendium

£2,395.00

A desk compendium of unusually large size. This eight day clock, barometer and thermometer housed in a nickel and gilt case and mounted on a black marble base is of exceptional quality and imposing size. The crisp white enamel clock dial is marked Henri Marc, Paris.

The clock movement is regulated by a platform cylinder mounted on an arched back plate with fine blued steel spade hands, housed behind a moulded silvered bezel and a frosted gilt oval mask engraved with symmetrical foliate designs to upper and lower margins, set within an oval moulded nickel finish case with bevel-glazed gilt cavetto moulded front and push-on rear cover mounted next to a matching aneroid barometer with the thermometer joining the two ovals.

The nickel finish to this clock makes it an unusual example as does it’s size (see last picture side by side with a more usual example).

Henry Marc is noted in Allix, Charles and Bonnert, Peter CARRIAGE CLOCKS Their history and development as probably a retailer of various mantel and other small clocks and refers to a relatively early carriage clock (number 26886) supplied to Marc by Japy Freres.
